• ABOUT CENTRAL CALIFORNIA LEGAL SERVICES

Executive Director's Message

“It is the daily; it is the small; it is the cumulative injuries of little people that we are here to protect....If we are able to keep our democracy, there must be once commandment: THOU SHALT NOT RATION JUSTICE.”

Learned Hand

Justice is rationed everyday for those who do not have access to an attorney.  Justice is especially scarce for the poor. At Central California Legal Services we work to reverse that and towards the day that the aspiration of “Justice for All” becomes reality.

The mission of Central California Legal Services is to advance justice and empower people.  We provide free civil legal services to the residents of Fresno, Kings, Merced, Mariposa, Tulare and Tuolumne Counties.  A small grant enables us to provide much more limited services to seniors in Madera County. Through the combined efforts of our clients, staff and board members, volunteers and collaborating partners we work to make Central California a stronger and better region.

Our clients are the working poor, victims of domestic violence and elder abuse, consumers denied access to health care, parents and students, senior citizens, immigrants and refugees, families facing homelessness, the newly unemployed,  workers cheated out of their wages and others suffering from “the daily…small…cumulative injuries of little people.”

Like virtually all other legal aid offices across the nation, the demand for our services far surpasses what we are able to provide.  The current economic meltdown challenges us as more people become eligible for our services and we have fewer resources to assist them.

It is our hope that this newly redesigned web site will help us provide more information to more people.

Whether you visit our website as a potential client needing legal information, an employee of an agency seeking information for your clients, someone looking for volunteer opportunities or any other purpose, we hope you find this site useful.  Please feel free to contact me at: chris@centralcallegal.org  if you have comments or suggestions about the site.
